Inside the childlike potty humor Ewan McGregor used to get the most out of his Star Wars: Attack of the Clones co-star Daniel Logan
What do Obi-Wan Kenobi’s farts smell like? Only Boba Fett knows for sure

Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the farts. At least that’s the advice Ewan McGregor gave to one young actor.
Daniel Logan was just 13 years old when he was cast as Boba Fett in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. When he had to film a scene where Boba Fett gives Obi-Wan a suspicious look, Logan wasn’t sure what to do. After all, he had never given anyone a suspicious look before.
“Being 13 years old, I didn’t have very much acting experience,” Logan says during a panel at Space Con 2025. “I had done commercials and TV shows in New Zealand, but Star Wars was the biggest thing I had ever done. I grew up on an island called New Zealand, and we didn’t know what suspicious was because growing up on an island, you’re very community oriented, so you didn’t have anyone that was suspicious in your neighborhood.”
“George Lucas kept saying to me, ‘Daniel, I need you to do a face like someone suspicious is coming to your house. And you’re looking at them like, what are you doing here.” Logan then demonstrated the faces he tried to make, but none of them were convincing. That’s when Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Ewan McGregor stepped in, giving him some advice he’ll never forget.
“Ewan, bless his heart, he came over and he’s like, ‘Daniel, can you do a face like I did a very smelly fart.’ And I think, well, I grew up with two big brothers, and sisters, even though they say they don’t do that. And so, instantly as a 13-year-old kid, the image already came to my head and he knew exactly how to talk to a little kid and get him to be able to express, especially in that type of way.”
Logan pretended to smell McGregor’s farts during the next take. According to the actor, if you go back and watch the movie, you can tell by the way he’s scrunching his face. In fact, George Lucas had to tell him to stop moving his nostrils.
“It set the stage for young Boba Fett and his little face. It took a couple of takes because the camera was so close on my face. If you remember how close it was up on my face, you could see every little expression on my little face. And as I’m opening the door for the first couple of times, I’m actually smelling the farts, and my nose is moving.”
“For me it was an amazing thing because Ewan McGregor is an amazing human being outside of being an incredible actor. And after Star Wars Episode II, 20 years later, I ran into him at Celebration, and he kind of gave me this look like, ‘Oh my goodness.’ And we went up on stage and we’re all sitting in line, and he just kind of pops around everyone else, looks down the panel at me, and he goes, ‘You’re the fart kid.’”
One of the fiercest bounty hunters in the galaxy, but to Ewan McGregor, Boba Fett will always be “the fart kid.”
