From the MCU to Gotham City, Scarlett Johansson is in talks to join The Batman: Part II cast in mystery role opposite Robert Pattinson

After leaving Black Widow behind, which of the many Batman characters will Scarlett Johannson play in The Batman sequel? We're still waiting to find out.

Scarlett Johansson has left the MCU behind – and has repeatedly closed the door on potentially returning to the role of Black Widow in future Marvel movies. But she hasn’t said no to comic book movies completely. According to reports, ScarJo is close to finalizing a deal to appear opposite Robert Pattinson in The Batman Part II, though it hasn’t been revealed which DC Comics character she will be playing.

The Jurassic World Rebirth star became one of the biggest names in Hollywood following the success of the early Marvel Studios films. As Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson first appeared in the MCU in 2010’s Iron Man 2. Her last appearance was in 2021’s Black Widow, more than a decade later. In total, she played Black Widow in eight Marvel movies in addition to a few uncredited cameo appearances along the way. However, the character had a very visible and very final death in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame that seemed to have closed the book on the comic book movie chapter of Scarlett Johansson’s career.

That seems to have changed as DC Studios are reportedly close to finalizing a deal with Scarlett Johansson to star in The Batman: Part II opposite Robert Pattinson’s Batman. Who exactly she’s in talks to play isn’t known yet. There is plenty of speculation, ranging from Poison Ivy to a version of Barbara Gordon. Until director Matt Reeves or someone from DC Studios gives us any confirmation, it is best to take any rumors with a grain of salt.

The Batman: Part II, starring Robert Pattinson and (potentially) Scarlett Johansson, will be in cinemas on October 1, 2027, with production set to start in Spring 2026.
