The Fantastic Four: First Steps Invisible Woman Vanessa Kirby is dropping unsubtle Franklin Richard teases for the next Marvel Studios outing

If Vanessa Kirby's teases are to be trusted, we can tick off the 'Franklin's powers will be important in The Fantastic Four: First Steps' box, then

Fans suspecting that Marvel Studios’ upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps is doing a speed-run through some of the greatest hits of the FF’s comic book career might have their suspicions confirmed by a throwaway comment from the movie’s Vanessa Kirby, who’s pretty much confirming that a comic book throughline is going to make it into the team’s very first MCU outing.

Talking to Empire about the movie, Kirby dropped this tease when addressing the fact that Sue is pregnant in the movie — and, in fact, rumored to give birth to Franklin Richards during the whole thing: “It’s not just adults that have superpowers.”

In Marvel comic book lore, Franklin Richards doesn’t just have superpowers — he has nearly god-level powers, and in fact restored the multiverse after the events of the 2015 comic book series Secret Wars. This is the kind of thing that might end up being pretty important to the MCU in a couple of years, considering that Avengers: Secret Wars is due out in December 2027. His powers are a result of Sue’s exposure to cosmic radiation — the same event that gave her powers in the first place — and first revealed themselves when he was a toddler. (Specifically, it happened in 1972’s Fantastic Four #130.)

Whether or not the cinematic Franklin’s power-set — or, for that matter, his life in general — will follow the pattern set by his comic book incarnation remains to be seen, when The Fantastic Four: First Steps is released July 25.

One thing’s for sure: if we are going to get not just the birth of Franklin but also his powers emerging in just one movie, Marvel Studios is managing to compress a decade’s worth of FF comics into the Fantastic Four’s debut outing. At this rate, we'll be getting to Paibok the Power Skrull by Fantastic Four 3.
