“She played it with heart”: Brendan Fraser on why Rachel Weisz defined The Mummy

Brendan Fraser says that Rachel Weisz was missed in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

When you’re fighting a reanimated mummy, it’s nice to have a good friend by your side. For Brendan Frasier, that good friend was Rachel Weisz. The actress played Evelyn Carnahan, an Egyptologist who fought alongside Fraser’s Rick O’Connell in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. Unfortunately, Weisz didn’t return for the third film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon, and Maria Bello took over the role. Looking back, Fraser says Weisz’s presence was missed in the third film.

“She’s fantastic. Rachel was brilliant,” Brendan Fraser says during a Mummy spotlight panel at Emerald City Comic Con 2022. “She was ready for everything. She played it with heart. She got down to the nitty gritty of being the kickass librarian. She just rules the day. She wasn’t scared of a ladder. Rachel is wonderful, and she was missed on the third one.”

Fraser made sure to clarify that he had nothing against Maria Bello, he just missed Weisz. “There’s an elephant in the room. Maria is great too, but she wasn’t Rachel, and you know what I mean.”
