Here's how Marvel Studios' Thunderbolts* director says he would reboot the X-Men for the MCU (not that he'll confirm rumors he's doing it yet)
He won't admit that he's directing Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot, but Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier does have some ideas how he's approach it. If he was doing it. Which he's not saying he is.

Guys, c'mon. Jake Schreier totally doesn't know if he's directing the MCU's X-Men reboot... Right?
Look, I'm gonna give the Thunderbolts* director the benefit of the doubt, first of all because Thunderbolts* (er, sorry, The New Avengers) was my favorite MCU movie in a long time, and second because even if he did know, there's bound to be a Marvel-hired assassin out there in case he starts leaking news out of turn. What I'll settle for, instead, is Schreier describing how he would direct and X-Men film, which he just did.
Schreier's quote comes from a Collider article, itself a report on the Beef director's appearance at the Mediterrane Film Festival in Malta.
"Even if I were confirmed on that movie," says Schreier, presumably with a wink, "I don't think I would be allowed to answer that question. I guess what I would say is that it always starts from character and working with great writers and collaborators, and certainly thinking about how to do something different with any project that you take on. That's as much as I can say."
And it's not very much at all, is it Jake? Ah well, at least we know that one of the fandom's favorite choices to direct the X-Men in the MCU would tackle it in much the same way that the best X-Men comic creators have done in the past. That's something to take comfort in as we Marvel fans spend our days awaiting the announcement of the MCU X-Men director.
Unless, you know, Ryan Coogler happened to reveal that it is Schreier directing the X-Men. Which definitely hasn't happened.
Thunderbolts* is expected to stream on Disney+ in August. As of this writing, no release date for the MCU's first X-Men movie has been revealed.
