DC Studios' Maxwell Lord is homaging the comics and Pedro Pascal's version, but also "improving" him "in certain ways" says Sean Gunn

Sean Gunn explains who Maxwell Lord is in the new DC Universe, and how they're changing the character.

Sean Gunn appeared briefly as Maxwell Lord in Superman, where the supervillain businessman served as the corporate sponsor of the Justice Gang and made a brief cameo weighing in on business rival Lex Luthor during a news interview. He is now appearing again in Peacemaker season 2.

"He's a rival billionaire. LordTech is an adversary of LuthorCorp essentially. He started the seeds of this Justice Gang," Sean Gunn says at FAN EXPO Chicago. "I can't say much more about that. Right now, he's a fascinating character. I loved tackling him."

Sean Gunn said not to expect another iteration of the Maxwell Lord who's appeared in other media, such as Pedro Pascal's version in Wonder Woman 1984.

"I think our version is different from anything we've seen yet in any other movie or incarnation," he says at FAN EXPO Chicago. "There are some source materials that we use a little bit for the character, but like a lot of things in the DCU we're trying to also... you pay homage to the characters, but you're also improving them a little bit in certain ways a little bit. You try to find the line to walk."

Sean Gunn deflected a question on whether it was Maxwell Lord or Guy Gardner that came up with the name Justice Gang.

"I don't think I can comment on that," he says at FAN EXPO Chicago. "I'm going to have to leave that one to your speculation."

Peacemaker will return to HBO Max for season 2 on August 21.
