Netflix’s Wednesday actor Luis Guzmán didn’t know who Tim Burton was before getting cast

"You mean the guy from the Batman movie?"

Netflix's Wednesday was a smashing success when it premiered on Netflix in the fall of 2022. The series featured a vibrant cast inlcuding Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), and Luis Guzman (Gomez), and featured some exceptional guest stars like Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester). While some members of the cast were prepared to step into a Tim Burton-esque world, other stars may have been a bit unfamilar with what that meant exactly, and more specifially, the creative mind behind it.

During an appearance at New York Comic Con, Luis Guzmán recalls not knowing who director and executive producer Tim Burton was upcon receiveing a call to play Gomez. Guzmán shared the funny story with fans.

"'Tim Burton wants to talk to you.' I go, 'Tim who?,' Guzmán recalls. 'Wait, wait, you mean the guy from the Batman movie, that guy? Yeah, oh yeah, I want to talk to him too.' We did the zoom meeting, and this guy comes on, and it's like wow! It's really Tim Burton."
