The most famous, infamous, and forgotten MCU food scenes from Marvel Studios

A shawarma, an omelette, and a food fight - welcome to Marvel's MCU menu

Marvel has been inextricably tied to food for centuries, from Aunt May's famous wheatcakes through the X-Men's famous Pizza Hut partnership in the '90s, all the way to the Spider-Verse burger of last summer. No matter what you're eating, food is a big part of entertainment, and a big part of Marvel Studios.

That said, as we'll go over here, food in the MCU isn't merely a side dish or an appetizer - instead, its a three course meal for what we call Famous, Infamous, and Forgotten.

This is the latest topic in Popverse's new weekly series Famous, Infamous, and Forgotten - a vigorous, opinionated, and intense look at one specific corner in the pop culture realm we inhabit to pick out the most famous version of it all, the most infamous version of it all, and the most forgotten version of it all.

And now, into the Marvel Studios kitchen:

The famous Marvel Studios' MCU food scene: Avengers (2012)

By 2012, Marvel Studios had done food scenes in earlier movies - such as the donut scene in Iron Man 2 or the coffee scene in the first Thor movie - but the Avengers post-credits scene featuring the team taking a post-battle break at a local shawarma place (as jokingly mentioned in the main body of the film) broke the internet and became the 'it' joke of the 'it' movie of 2012.

And boy, did it do something for the shawarma business. According to Google, interest in shawarma jumped 600% after being featured in 2012's Avengers. Although it didn't keep that lofty heights long, it settled in at twice the popularity it was just a month before the movie came out - and for many, introduced them to the food altogether.

The infamous Marvel Studios' MCU food scene: Ant-Man & the Wasp (2018)

Everyone loves a good food fight, but the kitchen scene in 2018's Ant-Man & The Wasp managed to get everything you'd expect out of a food fight with none of the joy. Sure, this scene is where Evangeline Lilly's Wasp first showed off her powers, but the CGI-ness of it all gave some disconnect that led me to lose my apetite.

The forgotten Marvel Studios' MCU food scene: Daredevil (2015)

On April 10, 2015, I finally learned how to make an omelette.

I had made one before, but Wilson Fisk (aka Vincent D'Onofrio) convinced me I was doing it wrong all this time. April 10, 2015 was the day Netflix released the first season of Daredevil, and in the show's eighth episode, we watched as Fisk methodically and deliberately made an omelette for himself. The dedication, the deliberateness... it's all there, and is a conniving way to share who Wilson Fisk is as a character - by going straight to your stomach.
