Unexpected things are afoot in New Donk City, and only two men stand in the way of total disaster. Well, as long as they’re not busy dealing with a plumbing emergency, obviously. The second trailer for Universal’s Super Mario Bros. movie has dropped, showing off more of what to expect from 2023’s next big thing.

The new trailer — technically, the movie’s first, with the October trailer officially described as a “teaser” — makes good on social media promises to reveal Princess Peach’s castle, as well as more details of what to expect in the first collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination, the animation studio behind Minions.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie teaser, which debuted at New York Comic Con 2022, offered the first chance to see — and hear — the new animated versions of the iconic video game characters, including Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as the eponymous plumbing brothers. Other voices include Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, and in a moment of inspired casting, Seth Rogen’s Donkey King.

You can watch the NYCC panel for yourself, including an appearance from Jack Black, right here on Popverse.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled for release April 7, 2023.
