Having stunned readers with their critically acclaimed The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, creators Ram V and Filipe Andrade are re-teaming for a new series mixing the supernatural, the culinary, and everything in between. What else would such a project be called, but Rare Flavours?

(Yes, that’s Flavours, with the 'u.' No, my American autocorrect doesn’t like it.)

The six-issue series centers around Rubin Baksh, a Rakshasa — a shapeshifting demonic entity in Hindu mythology — with a curiously low key ambition: to become the next Anthony Bourdain. Such things can’t be done anywhere other than Earth, however, and they can’t be done without some help… which is where Mo, a filmmaker whose own career isn’t exactly going that well, comes into the picture. Of course, Mo doesn’t know the truth about Rubin… or about much else of what’s about to happen, either.

Take a look at Andrade’s concept art for the series below.

“Ram and Filipe are a powerhouse of a creative team,” Eric Harburn, executive editor at publisher Boom! Studios, said about the new series. “Following their modern classic The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, return to India for a tale of the fleeting joys of life in the duo’s next masterpiece, Rare Flavours.”

Rare Flavours launches September 20; Andrade’s cover for the first issue, along with variants from Fabío Moon, Anand RK, and David Mack, can be seen in the gallery below.

A collected edition of Rare Flavours is already advertised for a March 1, 2024 release. You can pre-order now on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
