Todd McFarlane's Spawn is coming to "one of the biggest games on the planet" - but which one?

Spawn will be joining one of the world’s biggest video games. McFarlane won’t tell us which game it is, but Popverse has some ideas.

If you’re a gamer and you love Spawn, then Popverse has some exciting news for you. According to Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, Image Comics’ flagship character will be returning to video games. However, he wouldn’t spill the beans on which game it was.

“In October we’ll be making an announcement where Spawn will be in one of the biggest video games. He’ll be a character in one of the biggest games on the planet. Look forward to that in October,” McFarlane said.

McFarlane gave the tease during a spotlight panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

McFarlane spoke about how Spawn is still a valuable commodity, even though it’s been decades since the period most people consider it to be his prime. “Last year the number one selling book was Batman/Spawn. What other brand do you have that’s been around for 30 years, that is still number one 30 years later,” McFarlane added.

Spawn has appeared in a variety of video games, including Mortal Kombat 11, where Keith David voiced him. We will have to wait until October to find out which game McFarlane was talking about, but Popverse has a theory. According to the website Gaming Gorilla, the top 3 most popular video games (as of right now) are Call of Duty, Minecraft, and Fortnite.

It seems unlikely that Spawn will be making his way to Minecraft or Call of Duty. However, Fortnite has a history of adding popular comic book characters as playable skins. Both Marvel and DC Comics have done successful crossover campaigns with Fortnite. Can Spawn be next? That’s our current theory at Popverse.
