Much to the chagrin of Game of Thrones fans, prequel series A Knight of Seven Kingdoms has been delayed, with HBO now looking at an early 2026 release date window. The story comes from Variety, in an article published May 14. The series, which is set about a century before the events of Game of Thrones, didn't have a confirmed release date before this, although HBO execs had previously projected it for late 2025.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms follows the adventures of a young knight, Duncan the Tall, and his unassuming squire known as Egg, who is in reality Aegon V Targaryen, the great-great-grandfather of Jon Snow. The series is based on the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas written by Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin, which featured artwork by Prince Valiant staple Gary Gianni. In the TV adaptation, Peter Claffey will play Dunk, and Dexter Sol Ansell will play Egg.
The delay of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms also means that fans will have to wait longer to return to the world of Westeros. The first Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, is currently in production on its third season, but HBO has not announced when the show will return. And considering the fact that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms wrapped its production in late 2024, we expect House of the Dragon season 3 will also be a while in coming.
But hey, at least we have a release date window for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, right? Just saying, nobody's pulling a Winds of Winter over here.
Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon season 1 and 2 are currrently streaming on Max.
House of the Dragon season 2 may be over, but Popverse is still in the Westeros spirit, and we've got more Game of Thrones articles than could fit on a spiky chair.
