A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms creator George RR Martin told Lyonel Baratheon actor Daniel Ings that he had more plans for his character

If you, like me, became obsessed with Ings's Lyonel Baratheon, AKA The Laughing Storm, in HBO's latest Game of Thrones prequel, then George RR Martin has good news

If you've been watching any of Popverse's coverage of the most recent Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, you probably know that I simply can't get enough of Daniel Ings's Lyonel Baratheon. His wit, his dance moves, his cavalier attitude - it's all turned me into a huge fan of the knight they call The Laughing Storm, and apparently, I'm not the only person to have converted into this Baratheon groupie squad.

George R.R. Martin feels the same way.

At least, that's what we gathered from the interview Ings did with Square Mile, in which the actor touched on everything from his unfamiliarity with the franchise before nabbing the part to the instructions he got for playing the character ("The brief was 'Captain Jack Sparrow meets Ernest Hemingway,'" he says). But what really caught my eye was a blink-and-you'll-miss it revelation not just about Ser Lyonel's actor, but his creator as well.

"There are currently three Dunk and Egg stories for the series to adapt," reads the article, "George RR Martin has assured Ings that Lyonel will appear in further adventures the author has yet to write."

Hold up a moment, what? We know that the Westeros creator plans to add to his Dunk & Egg series of novellas, which are the basis for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - but this might be the first time we're hearing about Lyonel Baratheon's involvement in them. That's especially curious because, uh, we know how Lyonel's story ends (no spoilers here, reader), so it appears Martin is confirming there's stories we don't know regarding Lyonel's relationship with the titular Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon the Unlikely.

What happens in those stories? Well, if Ings knows, he's not telling, but I know I won't be the only person hoping that those tales will make it to the HBO adaptation of Martin's novellas.

Or that I'm the only person hoping they'll involve dancing.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 is streaming now on HBO Max.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 may have wrapped on HBO Max, but with House of the Dragon season 3 coming just around the corner, it's always a great time to read up on all things Game of Thrones. Fortunately, Popverse has everything you need to journey through the George R.R. Martin-created Westeros, including:

Plus much more coming as it gets announced!

Grant DeArmitt: Grant DeArmitt (he/him) likes horror, comics, and the unholy union of the two. In the past, and despite their better judgment, he has written for Nightmare on Film Street and Newsarama. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner, Kingsley, and corgi, Legs.
