Ahsoka star won’t return for season two because Disney “could not support a single mom"

One member of the season 1 cast of Ahsoka will not be returning for the show's second season. Claudia Black, who played one of the Nightsisters on Dathomir, revealed the reason why she won't be back for Ahsoka's sophomore season.
“Well, I'm going to be transparent," Black said to Bleeding Cool, via Deadline. "They picked up season two, picked me up with it, and then Disney, which is structuring things differently these days, could not pay me what I needed to be paid as a single mother to keep all my responsibilities going at home in Los Angeles, because they were filming in London. It was not something that they could make happen, and therefore, I had to bow out for season two."
Black portrayed Nightsister Klothow on Ahsoka, part of a witchy coven on the planet Dathomir who allied themselves with Morgan Elsbeth. She continued, "They call it ‘show business’ for a reason. It’s like 90 percent business and 10 percent show. They could not, sadly, support a single mom, and I’m very sad about that, but I also understand market forces being what they are, and the very delicate time in the business to even be able to afford to make anything at all. We all had to do our sums and move on.”
If the show casts a replacement for Black in Ahsoka season 2, it wouldn't be the first time that a Star Wars project replaced an actor. In the prequel films, the Tholothian Jedi High Council member Adi Gallia was portrayed in Episode I by Gin Clarke, who was unable to reprise her role in Episode II. The actress Lily Nyamwasa was then brought in as a replacement for Clarke. But because Nyamwasa and Clarke look completely different from each other, George Lucas created a new role for Nyamwasa as Adi Gallia's cousin. More recently, Baylan Skoll was played by Ray Stevenson in Ahsoka season 1. However, after Stevenson tragically died in 2023, Game of Thrones actor Rory McCann stepped in to play Baylan Skoll in season 2 of Ahsoka.
Deadline reached out to Lucasfilm for comment on Black's interview, with no response.
Ahsoka season 2 wrapped production in September of this year, and is expected on Disney+ at some point in 2026.
