Star Wars' Andor series was a joke on the set of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story according to Diego Luna, then years later it became real
Andor star Diego Luna believed Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a one-off, then it would be "back to normal"

It’s easy to think, looking back, that the plan was always to go from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story into Andor, expanding and exploring the story of Cassian Andor beyond his final act in the 2016 movie. But, according to star Diego Luna, nothing could be further from the truth — when he agreed to join the Star Wars galaxy, it was very intentionally just a one-off project.
“It was great to think it was just a film,” Luna said during the Star Wars Celebration livestream on Sunday. “I understood that language, I’ve been doing films my whole life. It was, like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna do this gigantic film, I’m gonna do a Star Wars film, but it has a beginning and an end. I’ll be back home, back to normal, and I’ll just see this as a, wow, that was a great year of my life.’ That’s how I went into the experience.”
He did admit, however, that the cast of Rogue One had so much fun that they did imagine returning one day — not that they ever believed it would happen.
“We used to say on set for Rogue One, ‘we should do a prequel, we should do more,’ but it was always a joke,” Luna continued. “We didn’t know it was going to happen. There were no shows, no TV shows back then. The format didn’t exist, at least for Star Wars, it didn’t exist so it wasn’t a possibility. It was a nice thing to hear, years later, that they were interested in revisiting Cassian and going back to that chapter.”
Andor’s second and final season debuts on Disney+ April 22.
