Benjamin Bratt loved his Star Wars: Andor role so much he tried to do more but was told it was too "expensive"

The actor had an idea how Bail Organa could have fit into earlier episodes of the show, but showrunner Tony Gilroy nixed the thought because of its price tag in a season already trying to cut costs

Incoming Bail Organa Benjamin Bratt had such a good time joining the Star Wars galaxy that he pitched additional scenes he could appear in for the second season of Disney+’s acclaimed Andor — but unfortunately, his pleas fell on deaf ears because of the practical costs they’d invoke.

“I have heard it described that Tony [Gilroy, Andor showrunner] used the word eager in my approach to not only joining the group, but in the work, and he's right,” Bratt told Entertainment Weekly. “I was so eager, in fact, that after becoming friends with Al [Mackenzie, who plays Perrin on the series] and Genevieve [O’Reilly, who plays Mon Mothma], I started lobbying very heavily to Tony to join the wedding sequence in episode 3, which was actually shot at the end of the schedule.”

“I said, ‘I know you've done this clever little reveal for Bail in episode 6, and we've already shot that and it's very effective, but it can still work in the story though,’” he explained. “‘Should we not contemplate that I have this deep and long-term friendship with my fellow senator, Mon? I mean, doesn't it make sense that I would be at the wedding showing up with a gift?’”

Gilroy wasn’t convinced, unfortunately.

“He said, ‘I love your enthusiasm, but it's a very expensive idea. It's far too late for that,’” Bratt said. At a time when the show couldn’t afford to make the horror movie introduction to K-2SO they’d originally planned, it’s not too surprising that they couldn’t rework already written, planned scenes to incorporate another actor — but just imagine the future Special Edition versions of the show that could be made if Lucasfilm changes its mind!

Andor is available to stream in its entirety on Disney+.
