Batman Beyond star Will Friedle says what we’re all thinking about Robin (all of 'em!) and their place in the Bat-Family lore

Will Friedle gives an impassioned defense of Robin’s place in the DC Universe

For years Robin the Boy Wonder has gotten a bad rap, and one Batman actor is sick of it. Will Friedle, who voices Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond, thinks too many people underestimate Robin, who he finds to be one of the coolest characters in the franchise.

“Robin is one of those characters that I think gets a lot of grief and doesn’t necessarily need to get that much grief,” Friedle says during a panel a Animate! Colombus 2025.

When asked who his favorite Batman and Robin was, the voice actor began listing his favorite things about each one. “That’s such a tough question. It’s not George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell. I’ve played Nightwing a lot as well, so I love Dick Grayson. But that being said, Damian is so out there crazy, trained assassin that they took him really dark, so there’s something about Bruce and Damian together in that relationship that’s kind of quickly becoming my favorite.”

Friedle is also a fan of Jason Todd, particularly in his Red Hood incarnation.

“I mean, originally nobody likes Jason, which is why they had him killed off, and then they went, ‘Alright, let’s go back and see what we can do with him.’ And then he becomes Red Hood, and it’s like, oh now you took him and made him one of the coolest characters ever.”

“I’m strangely going to stick with Bruce and Damian. I think it’s a weird combination.”

Sorry Tim Drake fans.
