I try very hard not to call something the greatest or the best; such claims are highly personal and subject to causing disagreements in the comments section that we simply don’t need. I use phrases like “highly regarded,” “beloved,” or “iconic” to hedge my bets, so understand that when I tell you that Batman: The Animated Series is the best animated show ever produced in the West, I mean it with my full chest.
While it never attempted the long-form storytelling that its contemporary X-Men: The Animated Series did, Batman was miles ahead of the curve when it came to the music, art, and acting of most animated shows of the time. It delivered mature stories and reinvented numerous Batman characters for a new generation. Whether you’re a fan of Batman, animation, or both, you need to add this show to your collection – and, thanks to the Amazon Black Friday sale, this is the perfect time to do it.
You can get all 109 episodes of Batman: The Animated Series on Blu-ray for $29.99 in the current sale – down from $79.99 normally. That’s a 63% savings on the show that sparked the DC Animated Universe that includes Justice League, Superman: The Animated Series, and Batman Beyond. Not only does Kevin Conroy deliver the definitive Batman performance, but we get Mark Hamill’s treatment of the Joker along with it. Both of these actors were so good that these portrayals became the standard against which all future depictions of the characters would be measured against.
Throw in the fact that Batman: The Animated Series gave us versions of Mr. Freeze and Clock King that were genuinely compelling along with creating Harley Quinn and you’ve got countless reasons to pick up this show on Blu-ray this Black Friday. It certainly helps that Amazon has thrown a pretty sweet deal your way as well.
