Imagine a Critical Role starring Felicia Day. It might have happened, if it weren't for Supernatural

Day played the specter-smashing Charlie Bradbury on The CW's Supernatural, and if the role hadn't been as much fo a commitment, she may have been a founding citizen of Exandria

Maybe you recall Popverse reporting on an interesting little comment from Critical Role's Travis Willingham - that is, that the hit fantasy media franchise has considered doing 'What If...?' versions of the stories they've told in The Legend of Vox Machina or The Mighty Nein campaigns. Well if so - we have a small suggestion for a kind of meta episode: what if, we'd like to hear, Felicia Day in the original Critical Role cast?

Why do we ask? Oh gee, I guess we should explain: it's very possible she would have been, if it weren't for Supernatural.

The topic came up on the Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny podcast, hosted by actors (and nerd media titans themselves) Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes. In the episode, Day spoke to her years in genre entertainment, including her role in helping the most successful Dungeons & Dragons actual play show get off the ground.

"I wanted to do D&D for live-streaming," said The Guild star, "I love live-streaming. This was in 2014 when nobody was live-streaming, and I started live-streaming myself and I was like, 'Hey, we should do this. And I love D&D. Let's put some D&D players on a live stream.' That's how Critical Role started; and that started the whole D&D phenomenon."

That's right, Critter. In case you didn't already know, you owe your favorite adventuring party to Felicia Day and her love of TTRPGs. But as she went on to explain, Day couldn't guest on the series she helped conjure up because of her role of Charlie Bradbury on seasons 7-10 of The CW's megahit supernatural drama.

"My friend Ashley Johnson," Day continued, "Who I knew through Joss Whedon, told me she had some nerdy voice actors she knew that played D&D together. And I was like, 'Great! I can't be on the show because I'm on Supernatural; I can't stream every week consistently. Voice actors are always in town - put them on.'"

A decade plus later, Felicia Day has graced the Critical Role cast with her presence a handful of times, and even lends her voice to The Mighty Nein's animated adaptation over at Prime Video. Even still, it's wild to consider what Day's presence could have been like as the very first Tales of Exandria were ever told...

Ah well, that's how the dice are rolled sometimes, I suppose.

Critical Role Campaign 4 is streaming now on the group's BeaconYouTube, and Twitch channels.

With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:

...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
