The list of voices Matt Mercer has done for Critical Role is, um, long. From hero to villain to everything in between, across Campaigns 1, 2, and 3, Mercer had played cosmic entities and weird lil guys since the dawn of the D&D actual play series in 2015. Some stay with him more than others, of course, with a few of the voices even making appearances in Mercer's everyday life. Which one in particular comes out the most?

Well, the answer might surprise you.

The Legend of Vox Machina voice actor recently appeared on YouTube series String and Tell with Tawny Platis, where the usual CR GM dove into a host of topics relating to his work as a character-maker. Obviously, characters like The Mighty Nein's Essek Thelyss have made a great impact on the Critter fanbase, but in this chat, Mercer got candid about which Mighty Nein character continues to make an impact (maybe unexpectedly) in his day-to-day

"It's that character named Pumat Sol," Mercer said, slipping into the voice, "That I did in stream for Critical Role."

Even if you're only familiar with the exploits of the Mighty Nein via the Prime Video animated series that shares their name, you'll remember furbolg Sol from season 1, episode 6, where he was introduced as the proprietor of The Invulnerable Vagrant, a shop specializing in mystical items. He's the big cow guy, if you'll recall.

"Seems to be a nice sort of Patrick Warburton-adjacent vibe," Mercer explained. "For [when] I don't know what I'm talking about."

Well I don't know about that, Matt - Pumat is a pretty knowledgable fellow, at least about what buyers are looking for in his shop. Still, I guess it's not really our place to tell you how a Critical Role character should come off.
