Which of Critical Role's Travis Willingham characters could lift Thor's hammer? Let him tell you

Asked about a match-up between Marvel's Thunder God and The Legend of Vox Machina's Grog, Critical Role's Willingham made the next logical step any TTRPG actual play star would when discussing Thor

Critical Role's Travis Willingham has played a host of characters beloved by the fanbase. From Campaign 1's Grog Strongjaw to The Mighty Nein's Fjord Stone to Chetney Pock O'Pea of the Bells Hells adventure, all of them fit into a pantheon of fan-favorites that stay with Critters old and new. But how would these characters do in a match-up between someone from an actual pantheon? Well, Willingham has some thoughts.

Willingham and costar/life-partner Laura Bailey were recently on an episode of Critical Role's fan Q&A talkback series Fireside Chat. During the discussion, one fan wrote in to ask Willingham who he thought was "mightier" (their words) - Marvel's Avenger Thor or Critical Role's half-giant barbarian Grog?

"Thor is definitely the mightiest," Willingham began, "though I think Grog would give him a run for his money. I don't think he's been able to lift his hammer though. Fjord would not be able to either. Chetney's bitch ass would be like, 'Yes! I have a heart of pure gold!' Teor is probably the closest."

Hold on a moment though, Travis, doesn't your The Legend of Vox Machina character also have a pretty spotless soul?

"Grog has a heart of gold," Willingham admits, "But y'all, he's a fucking idiot."

"That doesn't mean he's not worthy," Bailey spoke up, but Willingham wan't having it.

"No, Grog's not worthy," he said definitively, "He would do terrible things with that hammer. He'd protect his friends and then he would do terrible things."

The Legend of Vox Machina is streaming on Prime Video now.

With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:

...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
