How James Gunn secretly put the MCU in DC Studios' continuity, and vice versa (although Edgar Wright directed that Guardians of the Galaxy movie)
How James Gunn made Marvel canon to the DC Universe (and DC canon to the Marvel Universe)

Peacemaker season two was filled with lots of twists, turns, and surprises, but one of the more interesting ones is the revelation that Marvel superheroes exist as fictional characters within the DC Universe.
In Peacemaker season 2 episode 6 ‘Ignorance is Chris,’ Vigilante meets his Earth-X doppelganger, and they point at one another in surprise saying, “Spider-Man meme.” The implications for this reference are interesting, but DC Studios co-president James Gunn notes this isn’t the first time he pulled something like this.
“I think it’s the second time we did it. I think somebody mentioned something else earlier. Or was it the other way around. Did I do it at Marvel? I did it one other time,” Gunn says during an interview with Brandon Davis.
Gunn is correct. The Eternals featured references to Superman and Alfred Pennyworth. Gunn also recalled the Batman reference he had Kevin Bacon make in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. “I think it’s in the Christmas special. We mentioned Batman.”
“So now I’ve created DC within the Marvel Universe, and I’ve created Marvel within the DC Universe. Pretty cool.”
This begs the question, if the MCU movies exist in the DC Universe, does that mean there’s a DCU version of James Gunn? “No, I think Edgar Wright directed Guardians of the Galaxy, and he did a better job than me.”
Fair enough.
