Why Doctor Who's Daleks aren't scary, according to Billie Piper
Doctor Who’s Billie Piper doesn’t find the Daleks scary (especially after seeing them on cigarette breaks)

Billie Piper adores the Doctor Who franchise. The actress had a memorable stint as Rose Tyler, the Ninth Doctor’s companion. Rose was a fan favorite character, and there was brief talk of a spinoff. Piper has returned to the franchise on numerous occasions and has even participated in numerous Doctor Who audio productions. Oh, and she may or may not be playing the Sixteenth Doctor.
Needless to say, Piper loves Doctor Who. However, there’s one iconic part of the science fiction franchise that she isn’t crazy about.
“I don’t feel a lot about when I’m acting with....I’ve said it before, so I’ll say it again. I don’t feel, ‘Ooh,’ about the Daleks,” Piper admits during a panel at Florida Supercon 2025.
Piper admits that it’s probably because she’s seen some behind-the-scenes stuff, which has clouded her view of them.
“But then, if you think about it, I also see the guys inside smoking with their heads off outside. So, it kind of kills the magic. But also, it’s just slightly….I don’t know, they’re not scary.”
They may not be scary, but the Daleks are iconic. Even if they need a cigarette break every once in a while.
