Game of Thrones star Kit Harington is mad at fans who signed petition wanting a season 8 do-over: "How dare you?"

"I think it was a level of idiocy that can only come about through social media," said Game of Thrones' own Jon Snow

Fandom is like the flame - a beautiful tool in some hands, a crackling devastation in others. Take, for example, fan petitions. We have to remember that it was a fan petition that got then-88-year-old Betty White hosting SNL in 2010, while also recalling it was a fan petition that, er, a certain kind of Star Wars fan released after The Last Jedi. Now if you're involved with a production that gets a fan petition from that latter category, you may think that the whole thing is a wash - at least, we're willing to bet Kit Harington would agree to that.

The Game of Thrones actor, who played pivotal character Jon Snow, recently spoke to Variety about the fan petition that sprung up after the show's season 8 finale. In case you don't recall, that petition made its way around the internet in 2019, calling for all of season 8 to be remade with, "competent writers."

"That genuinely angered me," said The Beast Within star, "Like, how dare you? Sorry, that’s just how I feel. I think it was a level of idiocy that can only come about through social media."

Now look, we're not going to comment on the Game of Thrones finale because frankly, we can't afford a fan petition ourselves. That said, Harington's comments do highlight the slightly entitled relationship between fan and creator that's become a bit too commonplace these days, and if nothing else, shows that there are better things that fans of the Eternals star could do than try to change what's already past.

Things like, I don't know, trying to get his Eternals plotline back up and running.

Game of Thrones is streaming on HBO Max now.
