Critical Role isn't ready to reveal who Andy Serkis's Legend of Vox Machina role just yet, but says he's "very important" to the story

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum director and fantasy legend Serkis has joined Prime Video's Critical Role Campaign 1 adaptation and is "going to shine" teases Travis Willingham

Critical Role's The Legend of Vox Machina season 4 is only a couple days away from dropping, but there's still one major mystery surrounding the series that has fans buzzing: that is, who will Andy Serkis play? The Lord of the Rings legend and The Hunt for Gollum director has been confirmed as part of Prime Video's penultimate season of their Critical Role Campaign 1 adaptation, but as of this writing, his part remains a mystery.

So when Popverse's Trent Cannon got to chat with The Legend of Vox Machina cast, he obviously had to do some investigating.

Trent sat down with Exandrian citizens (and OG Critical Rolers) Ashley Johnson, Marisha Ray, and Travis Willingham ahead of the Vox Machina season 4 release date to discuss a wide range of topics, one of which was Serkis's role. Since the internet has been buzzing about the possibility of Serkis playing big bad the Whispered One, Trent asked if that was the role being kept secret.

"Andy Serkis is playing a very important character in season four," said Willingham, expertly dodging the question, "Whatever he does, he's going to shine in ways that the audience couldn't anticipate or expect."

Costar Ashley Johnson was willing to share her own answer, but we're pretty sure that it wasn't terribly serious.

"He's playing Pike's grandma," The Last of Us star said.

Well there you have it, folks. Andy Serkis is playing the gnomish grandma of Pike Trickfoot. Somebody pull up the IMDb page.

The Legend of Vox Machina season 4, starring Andy Serkis as... someone, heads to Prime Video beginning June 3.

With two animated series on Prime Video, Campaign 4 in full swing, and so much more Exandrian lore to come, Critical Role is showing no signs of slowing down. That's why the adventuring party at Popverse are here to bring you everything we can from those nerdy-ass voice actors & Bo., including:

...and much, much more. Roll initiative, player. Magic awaits.
