The West Wing's Dulé Hill isn't interested in resurrecting the beloved show - with one specific exception

What would change Dulé Hill's mind about coming back to The West Wing? Who was writing it.

The West Wing defined political drama during its original run from 1999 through 2006 — and, to some degree, defined how many Americans saw politics, as well. It’s a very different world today, but does that mean there’s no space for The West Wing today? Dulé Hill, who played Charlie in the show, has some feelings on that topic.

“For myself, I think some things are better left alone. I just think, really, it told a story,” Hill said when asked about the prospect of continuing The West Wing or rebooting the show for today’s audiences during the Walt and Talk panel at C2E2 2026 — although he also had some feelings about that second option.

“When you watch the West Wing now, it doesn't seem archaic,” he argued. “So many things are still so current, which is a testament to the brilliance of [series creator] Aaron Sorkin and all the creative forces behind the show, but also a [condemnation of] our society, because we've not moved further enough along the road. So I really don't know how you take that and make it like make it new when that still is so relevant today, you know?”

There was, however, one circumstance that would make Hill return to the show, he admitted — and that would be the chance to reunite with the original creative force behind it all: “I will say, if Aaron came up with an idea that I think we would all would be there, simple as that.”

As things stand, Sorkin is busy with the follow-up to The Social Network, The Social Reckoning, which he’s writing and directing for an October 9 release later this year — but after that…? Well, Aaron, it’s not as if there’s not more to say about politics in America these days if you really wanted to, considering…!
