"It's not over": Clark Gregg looks to Marvel Studios' multiverse for his and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s MCU return

Clark Gregg and Chloe Bennet believe their Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D characters will return to the MCU one day

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has a weird on-again, off-again relationship with canon.

When the show premiered in 2013, it was promoted as a piece of MCU canon, including statements by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. However, the MCU movies ignored and contradicted the events of the show, and The Marvel Cinematic Universe: An Official Timeline book exiled it from continuity entirely. This opens up the possibility for AOS actress Chloe Bennet to return to Marvel in a new role, but she’s not interested in playing a different character.

“Ew, I wouldn’t want to cheat on Daisy and come back as anything else. That would be terrible. Yeah, I would love to come back,” Bennet says during a panel at Space Con 2025.

Her co-star Clark Gregg echoed her sentiments.

“I would only want to come back as Coulson,” Gregg says.

Marvel’s Netflix characters had previously been banished from continuity, but they’re currently enjoying a renaissance thanks to Daredevil: Born Again. Bennet and Gregg are hopeful that their journey isn’t over either.

“It was a hell of a great ride,” Gregg says. “I’d like to announce to you today that it’s not over, but I don’t know anything about that. Who knows these things? There’s a lot of multiverses.”
