Marvel Studios brought WandaVision's Debra Jo Rupp back to be a witch in Agatha All Along, but things changed
Debra Jo Rupp had a very different idea of what her Agatha All Along role would be

Debra Jo Rupp’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t go the way she planned, but she sure had fun.
Rupp made her Marvel debut in the 2021 series WandaVision, where she played Sharon Davis, a Westview resident who was brainwashed into taking on the sitcom persona Mrs. Hart. When Marvel began developing Agatha All Along, they knew they wanted Rupp to return. However, they might have miscommunicated exactly what her role would be.
“It was an early idea that we would bring a citizen of Westview on the Witches’ Road,” showrunner Jac Schaeffer says during a panel at PaleyFest LA 2025. “It was abundantly clear that it needed to be Mrs. Hart. I think some of the writers’ favorite work was subjecting poor Mrs. Hart to the horrors of the Witches’ Road.”
“The phone call I got was, ‘We’d love you to join this project. You’re going to be a witch,’” Rupp recalls. “I was so excited. And then I get there, I think I’m going to be a witch, like really. Like, Debra Jo is going to play a witch. And I get there, and no one is really looking me in the eyes. And then it just went downhill [laughs].”
Sharon is recruited into Agatha’s coven but dies during the first trial. Rupp joked about her character’s misfortune, and the chances of a resurrection.
“I was not happy. I would see Jac every once in a while, and finally she would look at me. And I remember saying, ‘But she comes back in a field or something, right? I mean, this is Marvel.’ And then she would just say, ‘Oh, Debra Jo.’”
Despite the ribbing she gave Schaeffer during the panel, Rupp made it clear that her time on Agatha All Along was special.
“I loved every minute of this so much. At my age you sometimes don’t get to do new exciting things, and this came my way. It was such a gift.”
