It's been a minute since we last saw Paul Bettany as his Avengers character, Vision, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (He last appeared in 2021's WandaVision.) Soon, however, we'll be seeing plenty of him in his own six-episode series, currently in post-production under the working title Vision Quest. With James Spader reprising his role as Ultron, the "father" of Vision in the MCU for the series, there is quite a bit of anticipation for what the show will actually be like once it drops on Disney+ sometime in 2026. 

At Los Angeles Comic Con 2025, Paul Bettany dropped a few hints at the thematic focus of the series. "It is about lots of things, and it's super exciting. In the same way that WandaVision was about grief, and if you said that before, you'd go, 'Oh, I don't think I should watch that show.' It's sort of about intergenerational trauma," Bettany began. "It's about fathers and sons, and stuff, and denial of pain, and denial of your own truth, and coming to terms with who and what you are, and what you could be. And I think that one of the things that's really powerful about the character is that he's always in a state of flux, he can change. And I think that's really important." 

While Bettany didn't say that Vision Quest was a sequel to WandaVision, he said that the show is "absolutely rightly part of the trilogy," which could refer to Avengers: Age of Ultron, WandaVision, and Vision Quest - or potentially WandaVision, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Vision Quest, if the series continues the story of Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda in some sense. (Technically, there is a third potential trilogy he could be referring to: WandaVision, Agatha All Along, and Vision Quest, a Disney+ set of shows interconnected by characters and themes.)

It's worth noting that Vision Quest will feature other androids and AIs in the MCU - including Jocasta, a character best known as a member of the Avengers in Marvel Comics - so I wouldn't be surprised if what Bettany said about the show would also apply to other androids beyond Vision. We'll just have to wait and see until the show begins streaming on Disney+ next year.
