Fantastic Four x Straw Hat Crew? A new Marvel Rivals leak teases a One Piece reference incoming for the Human Torch

If anyone was going to dress up as Doflamingo, it would be The Human Torch from Fantastic Four.

There can be no doubt that One Piece has become a global phenomenon beyond what anyone could have expected, but it has gotten to the point where we’re seeing references to Eiichiro Oda’s iconic manga and anime pop up everywhere. Earlier this year, Marvel Rivals fans were convinced that Mr. Fantastic’s Ultimate was a reference to Monkey D. Luffy’s Gear 4 form. Now, an upcoming summer costume for The Human Torch is making fans think Johnny Storm is giving powerful One Piece vibes once again.

The skin in question was first revealed by Millar Ross, who has been pretty consistent with his leaks about Marvel Rivals. According to Ross, the costume will be part of the 3.5 update for the game, likely out in early August. The Human Torch skin sees Johnny Storm dressed in a bright pink shirt complete with pink sunglasses with white frames. It is exactly as flamboyant as you’d expect Johnny Storm to dress when he’s out at the beach, but it also looks suspiciously like one of the most iconic One Piece villains, Donquixote Doflamingo.

Even Johnny Storm’s mess blond hair seems taken straight out of Doflamingo’s look in One Piece. Honestly, if there was anyone in the Marvel Rivals roster that would look at Doflamingo and want to cosplay as him, it would be the Human Torch. It feels perfectly in-character for him.

Is there a One Piece fan hiding in the Marvel Rivals development team, or are these just a series of coincidences? We can’t say for sure until this Human Torch skin finally drops in a couple of weeks, but this is already the second time in less than a year that we’ve had to ask that question.
