Superman & Lois's Bitsie Tulloch on being the first live-action Lois Lane on TV who's a mom
Sure, her kids are half-Kryptonian, but a huge part of of being a mom is worrying about your children. And according to The CW's Lois Lane, that reality was a "blessing" to factor into playing a character

Lois Lane has been a mother in the pages of DC Comics for decades at this point (most recently, her in-continuity son is Jon Kent, AKA DC's newest character to hold the 'Superman' moniker). However, it wasn't until Bitsie Tulloch's iteration of the character on The CW's Superman & Lois that Lois had been a mom in a live-action TV show. Now, Tulloch is going on record to say it was "a blessing" to be playing a Lois Lane who had kids.
The quote comes from a conversation Tulloch had with Popverse's own senior video producer Ashley Victoria Robinson. Over the course of the discussion, Ashley asked a couple of key questions about bringing a unique spin to Tulloch's portrayal of the iconic DC Comics character, who has been portrayed in live-action at least seven times before, and of course the discussion eventually shifted to one of the biggest things that made Tulloch's Lois stand out: her motherhood.
"I just felt so grateful," says Tulloch, "because the reality is that having children [in a show] raises the stakes automatically. And as an actor, you want the stakes to be as high as possible. That's not to say that other Loises that weren't moms don't have very high stakes. They obviously do. But being a mom and having your kids threatened really raises the stakes."
"One of the things I'm proudest of," the actor continues, "Is that our showrunners didn't shy away from difficult subject matter. There was a miscarriage episode; obviously Lois's breast cancer storyline in season 3. But I remember in (I think it was season 1, episode 8) [Lois] was talking about just how powerless you are when you can't just protect [your kids]. They're part of you; they're part of your heart and they're just walking around and you're just trusting that they're going to be okay and they're going to be safe."
