Supernatural star Kurt Fuller on his own experience with the unexplainable

Speaking with Popverse, the actor that played Supernatural's villainous angel Zachariah desecribed his encounter with a possible out-of-body experience

As one of its longest-running (and most beloved) villains, Kurt Fuller has quite a lot of experience with Supernatural, the CW TV show starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as the monster-hunting Winchester brothers. But not only has Fuller played the angelic Zachariah in that series, he's also been a regular on CBS's darker series Evil, in which he played the skeptic-turned-believer psychiatrist Dr. Boggs. With all the paranormal experiences Fuller has had in front of the camera, we were obviously curious if he'd ever tangled with the unexplained in real life.

And when we got the chance to ask him at C2E2 2025, it turned out that he had.

"I rarely believe in anything." Fuller told us when the subject of the paranormal came up, "But I feel either I was dreaming or I had an out-of-body experience. I swear to God."

Naturally, we had to know more.

"I was in the hospital," Fuller explains, "And my blood pressure went way down for some reason. Some drug they had given me or something. And I could see myself in the bed!"

In case you've never heard of them, the kind of out-of-body experience Fuller is describing is a phenomenon that's reported more than you'd think. And in many cases, witnesses have claimed to be in a hospital bed with their vitals in a dangerous place, much like the Psych actor's case.

"My blood pressure went so low," continues Fuller, "They called a code blue, and they actually came in with the paddles. It went back up before they used them, but I could see the people [holding the defibrillator]. I'm sure I could!"

Despite the experience, Fuller isn't completely sold on the idea of having really dipped into the paranormal versus only having experienced a medically induced hallucination.

"Did I really [see it]?" Fuller says "Or was that just my mind? I don't know. But that's the closest to something paranormal incident. It's like Evil always says - it could have been or it couldn't have been."

Either way, it's a haunting experience from an industry vet that has plenty experience haunting. And we have to admit, it's a bummer that he didn't see anyone even slightly resembling Castiel.
