Karl Urban really drove that boat in The Boys season 2... and he really made Jack Quaid puke
The cast of The Boys has done some wild things, but making Jack Quaid puke during filming is a memorable one.

One of the most exciting scenes in The Boys is when we watch Butcher and the crew drive a boat over the water and straight through a whale. According to the cast, not only was Karl Urban really behind the controls of that speedboat, but his reckless need for speed made Jack Quaid lose his lunch – and earned Urban a very stern look from one of his castmates.
During their panel at MCM London 2025, The Boys cast were asked about scenes that really pushed their acting abilities to their limit. Tomer Capone was the first to chime in and say, “You know what, from the stunts, the crazy stunts, I’m just seeing, I’m just imagining Karl [Urban] as Butcher driving the boat. He really drove that boat inside the whale. He was that very fast. Yes. We all have to clean Jack Quaid’s vomit out of us in the end of the day.”
The scene in question happens in season two, when the Boys are pursued by the Deep. As mentioned, they drove a boat straight through a whale who is a close friend of The Deep in a rain of gore and guts. However, Quaid suffered long before the viscera was added.
“I remember that day we were in the speedboat,” Karl Urban said as he gave a little more detail on the story. “And [Jack Quaid] was having a rough time of it. And had really never, I think, been in a speedboat, and we had a helicopter that was hovering, you know, 100 feet in the air, shooting us, and I was going along, jumping waves. I remember getting to the end of one run and the kid [was] white. And he goes, ‘Do you think you could slow down a bit?’ I’m like, ‘Mate, yeah. I’ll I’ll try.’ You know? And he goes, ‘Can we have a safety word?’ and I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah sure.’ And I’m like, ‘Well, how about car? And so, if it’s too much, you know, just go ‘car.’’”

There is a problem with this plan, as it relies on Karl Urban being able to hear Jack Quaid’s protest over the roar of the engine.
“So, full tilt. Blasting along. I can’t hear him!” Urban says in his defense. “The engine’s going. The engine is like, you know, and this kid at the end of the run was like so wobbly and so not in a good way, and I’ve got a photograph from Laz [Alonso] and he’s like this with Quaido and he’s [got his head between his knees] and [Laz] is looking at me like this...”
At this point, Karl Urban gave a look that is the epitome of “I’m not mad. I’m just disappointed,” energy to the crowd.
“I think that pushed Jack Quaid to the limit. It’s not my fault!”
And then the boat broke,” Laz Alonso added.
“That’s right, because in true Boys fashion,” Urban reminded everyone. “Any mode of transportation that The Boys have is completely dilapidated and broken down.”
So, what we’re hearing is, don’t get in a boat with Karl Urban if you have a weak stomach. Or do if you’re looking to lose your lunch.
