Move over Lord of the Rings and Mortal Kombat - Karl Urban loves playing Butcher in The Boys more than any other role
Karl Urban shared his love for playing Butcher in The Boys while at a panel in London and we are inclined to agree with him.

Hollywood has been falling in love with Karl Urban over the past few years. After a string of great performances in The Lord of the Rings and Dredd, we’re getting to see Urban join the Mortal Kombat universe as Johnny Cage in 2026. The man has graced multiple fandoms over the years and shows no signs of stopping. However, Karl Urband has confirmed that it is Billy Butcher in The Boys that is his favorite role so far.
While at MCM London Comic Con 2025, Karl Urban talked about his time on The Boys. With season 5 on the horizon for 2026, it is the perfect time to reflect on his time as the foul-mouthed and vengeance-obsessed Billy Butcher. “I think out of all the characters I’ve played, though, he is probably my favorite to date, I think. Yeah, I had such a great time playing him and obviously, playing a character over five seasons is quite different to playing a character for, you know, three months or six weeks. So [I have] a very special sort of fond connection with Butcher.”
We’re not sure if an actor is supposed to play favorites with roles, but we’ll let Karl Urban off, considering how long he’s been playing Butcher on The Boys and how many incredible moments the role has given him. It is certainly one of the most diverse roles in Urban’s career, with a great mix of emotional moments, weird imagery, and action. We just hope season 5 of The Boys lives up to the hype.
