The Boys season 5 is the epic conclusion and promises to explain more than you could want to know about the characters.

When you spend four seasons watching a character like Butcher do terrible things in the name of killing supes, it is easy to think you already know everything about him. However, something that has never been explained before is how exactly Butcher from The Boys got that scar on his forehead. It has never been addressed before but Karl Urban has dropped one small spoiler for The Boys season five – we’ll find out how Butcher got his scar.

During The Boys Reunion panel at MCM London 2025, Karl Urban was asked quite directly how Butcher got that prominent scar on his forehead. It has never been mentioned or explained in the show, so the audience member wondered how Urban thought it might have happened. However, the actor explained that we won’t have to wait much longer – the origin of Butcher’s scar will be revealed in season five of The Boys.

“That’s a great question,” Urban tells the packed audience. “And you know, personally, I would actually love to keep that a bit enigmatic, but… season 5, you’re gonna find out the origin of Butcher’s scar. That’s the one spoiler I will tell you. Yeah, so, obviously I can’t divulge to you in this room, but you’re going to find out.”

As far as spoilers go, it is a pretty small one. However, now we know that we’ll at least get the origin of Butcher’s scar at some point in The Boys season five. Knowing the show, it will be some deeply traumatic, action-packed adventure involving at least one explosion, but we’re not ruling out a potential shaving accident either.
