If you watched Superman and Lois, then you know Smallville has been through a lot. The town has had to deal with crooked politicians, invaders from other dimensions, Doomsday, and more. It turns out we can also add zombies to this list.

No, you didn’t miss an episode of Superman and Lois. Smallville’s zombie invasion happened on another show. The Last of Us season two prominently featured one of Superman and Lois’s main sets.

“There were three main locations,” Superman and Lois star Bitsie Tulloch said during the Superman & Lois reunion panel at C2E2 2026. “The stage, obviously, and then the exterior of the farmhouse, which was cold and muddy and was really hard for the crew. Nobody liked that location. But then they built a backlot for Smallville, because there is no place in Vancouver that looks like Smallville, Kansas.”

“For the people here who liked The Last of Us, our last day of filming, and I was a little peeved, The Last of Us season two took over. So, keep your eyes out because you’ll see Smallville zombified for The Last of Us, because they were all walking around with their big Last of Us budget, and we’re like, ‘It’s our last day of filming. Could you have checked out the backlot tomorrow?’”

This is why Smallville needs Superman. The minute he leaves the city, it becomes overrun with zombies.

Superman and Lois and The Last of Us are both streaming on HBO Max.
