The Sopranos stars reunited for a new mob story - this time, in audio format (Oh, and it's about 9/11)

UnderGround Zero: 9/11 & The Mob will star Michael Imperioli (Christopher Moltisanti) and Steve Schirripa (Bobby Bacala), alongside The Sopranos' Ray Abruzzo and Arthur Nascarella

There's another mob story on the way from Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa, but it probably isn't the franchise (or even the medium) you're expecting. The Sopranos stars - who made TV history as Christopher Moltisanti and Bobby Bacala, respectively, have boarded an iHeartPodcasts & Thoroughbred joint project entitled UnderGround Zero: 9/11 & The Mob.

The news comes from Deadline, which reports that Imperioli and Schirripa - who have previously united for the Talking Sopranos podcast - will help tell a dramatized version of the true story of the millions the mob mad after the deadly terrorist attack on American soil. Along with the news, Deadline has published the official synopsis of the audio drama.

"Less than two hours after the Twin Towers collapsed on 9/11," it reads, "Firefighters, police officers and rescue workers battled flames, explosions, choking dust – and a city in chaos – to save the living and remove the dead. Across the East River, in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge, an emergency meeting was underway. The men gathered saw a nefarious opportunity and turned catastrophe into an enormous windfall. Their scheme might have succeeded on an even greater scale were it not for one dedicated cop."

Imperioli will reportedly play said dedicated cop, one Lt. Frank Sturiano, but it won't be only he and Schirripa bringing their experience on The Sopranos into the project. Deadline reports that Ray Abruzzo ("Little" Carmine Lupertazzi) and Arthur Nascarella (Carlo Gervasi) have also joined the cast, while former HBO head Jeff Bewkes coproduces as Chairman of Thoroughbred Studios.

As of this writing, no release date for UnderGround Zero: 9/11 & The Mob has been announced.

The Sopranos is streaming now on HBO Max.
