Spending over a decade in a zombie apocalypse can really change someone. Daryl Dixon made his television debut in the third episode of The Walking Dead, which aired back in 2010. Unlike Rick, Lori, Shane, and many of the other survivors, Daryl was an original character created for the series. This allowed actor Norman Reedus and the writers to experiment and explore the character.
“He started out so different,” Norman Reedus says during a Walking Dead spotlight panel at New York Comic Con 2022. Reedus looked at a photo of Dixon from the first season and thought about the journey the character had undergone.
“He was put on that show to rob those people. He finally earned some respect from those people, and then he stood up for those people, and I think the character in that photo is much different than the character in the [season 11] clip you just showed for sure.”
Today, Daryl has his own spinoff, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Not bad for a character who was introduced to rob his friends.
