So, you’ve brought a beloved action movie franchise to a seeming close after 30 years, hitting a new box office record for the series in the process; what do you do next? If you’re Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning star Tom Cruise, the answer is apparently “sit around and watch some soccer on television with your famous friends.” By which we mean: he's going be on television, watching soccer. Because it's Tom Cruise.

Just weeks after the release of the final Mission: Impossible movie (and the genuinely exhausting promotional tour involved to make sure as many people went to see it as possible), you might expect Cruise wanted to put his feet up and take it easy… but, instead, he’s going to be sharing the screen with David Beckham on Paramount+’s Beckham & Friends Live on May 31, with the two watching the Champions League final Paris Saint-Germain/Inter Milan match.

Has Cruise always been a soccer fan and this is a long-held dream come true, or is this simply another Mission: Impossible promotional appearance, as strange as it may seem? (Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning is released by Paramount, which obviously also owns Paramount+.) The answer is very possibly both; he was, after all, deeply excited during an appearance at the Women’s Soccer Final at last year’s Olympics, and has spoken multiple times in the past about his love for the sport. Nonetheless, it’s certainly an unexpected public appearance from the star after the release of his latest movie — and one that suggests that, just maybe, he’s beginning to let his hair down a little.
