A "quite important" new part of the MCU to debut in Werewolf by Night, according to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is teasing that there's more to next week's Werewolf by Night than fans might be expecting

If you were thinking that Marvel’s upcoming Werewolf by Night special on Disney+ was a fun little standalone project for the studio, think again — apparently, it’s key whatever is coming next for the MCU, according to the one man who’d know for sure.

As part of a new behind-the-scenes trailer for Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation: Werewolf by Night — one filled with a lot of behind the scenes footage, as well as quotes from director Michael Giacchino and stars Gael García Bernal and Laura Donnelly — Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shows up to reveal that there’s more going on than might initially meet the eye. (Fittingly, perhaps, for a Halloween-themed special episode.)

“We’re introducing a world that will ultimately become quite important to the future of the MCU,” Feige says about the horror creature-filled surroundings of the one-off show, which debuts on Disney+ next week.

He doesn’t explain quite what he means — does he mean world figuratively, or literally: is this an alternate Earth in the Marvel Multiverse? — or in what way it’ll end up being quite important to the future of the MCU. Is Jack Russell going to join the next generation of Avengers? Are the horror characters going to resurrect Wanda Maximoff after the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness? Will everything else be in black and white moving forward?

(A more serious suggestion would be to note that the trailer for Werewolf by Night featured a glimpse of Man-Thing, a character who traditionally hangs out in a nexus connected to the multiverse. Given what we’ve seen in projects like Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Multiverse of Madness, that’s the kind of thing that might prove relatively important when dealing with the oncoming threat of Kang.)

It should be noted that teasing that something will later become important in a future project is a familiar move from Feige, who seemingly loves signposting teasers in case fans don’t pick up on them quickly enough, so this might simply be familiar territory for the Marvel Studios head. (Remember when he kept on telling people how important the Quantum Realm was ahead of Avengers: Endgame?)
