As Captain America 4 wraps production, Anthony Mackie warns studios of disaster if actors strike happens

The new Captain America says that studios have to offer actors a fair deal

As Marvel rushes to try and finish initial production on the fourth Captain America movie ahead of a potential Screen Actors Guild strike, the star of the movie says that studios need to prepare to make a fair deal, or face the consequences.

Speaking to Inverse, Anthony Mackie — who’ll play the MCU’s new Captain America on the big screen for the first time in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World — said “it’s a shit show if we go on strike,” adding that he believes that studios will be forced to offer actors a reasonable deal if they want to prevent disaster. “They’re going to have to,” he said, “Unless they get a bunch of fucking YouTubers to make Avengers 5!”

Mackie, it’s worth noting, has his eyes wide open about the movie industry and its inequities; elsewhere in the interview, he’s quoted as saying, “I’ve never met a fair producer in my life. Ever. No.”

The originally-announced shooting schedule for Brave New World has the final day of production earmarked as June 30 — which also happens to be the cut-off date for the current contract between the Screen Actors Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, although a one-week extension has been rumored as both sides continue to negotiate to avoid a potential strike.

It’s worth noting that Marvel has recently significantly pushed back every movie following this November’s The Marvels, in part as a result of delays created as a result of the ongoing WGA strike — a strike that has also indefinitely delayed the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. It’s possible that the rescheduling was also preparing for any potential delay produced by a possible actors’ strike, as well.

Captain America: Brave New World is currently scheduled to be released August 26, 2024; you can keep track of the release dates of upcoming superhero movies via our calendar of future releases.

Wondering just who Olivia Coleman is in Disney+’s Secret Invasion?
