Absolute Batman changed the way you see DC's Dark Knight, and DC aims to do the Absolute treatment to events this fall even bigger
The Absolute Universe is ready to go bigger, and DC sounds confident.

The Popverse coverage of the ComicsPRO Annual Meeting 2026 is brought to you by Lunar Distribution. Commited to Retailers. Focused on the Future of Comics.
If you've been reading superhero comics for any significant length of time, you know what a crossover event is. Much in the same way Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame brought together much of the various elements of the MCU in one cohesive, blockbuster, and moment-filled experience, comics events at their best do much the same.
And if you've seen what the creators of Absolute Batman, Absolute Wonder Woman, and more have done with DC's storied mythical heroes by making them grounded, relatable, and viscerally relevant, you can only imagine what that unique approach would do if they were to ever go bigger.
Well, as Popverse confirmed in our reporting earlier this week, they are.
"As I think you all know, we are very mindful about keeping the Absolute Universe sort of at the size it is, keeping it easy to understand, keeping it easy to onboard," DC executive editor Chris Conroy told those gathered here at ComicsPRO. "We will have one other thing this year. It's the first Absolute Universe event. This will be in Q4. We're going to do it our way, the Absolute way."

By the end of the year, DC will kick off the first ever crossover event in the Absolute DC universe. Like the Christmas or Hanukkah present you want to bad that you sneak into your parents' room to find early, this as yet-untitled Absolute DC series aims to present a new way to do superhero events: learned from the lessons of those of the past, but not bound by those to get in the way of being the kind of spectacle fans want to see here now in 2026 — and one they are going to want to rush to their friends to share in the excitement.
"This is going to be easy to understand, it's going to be easy to get on board, it’s not going to disrupt the stories," he continued. "You're not going to have to explain to the new Absolute customer what a crossover is."

Given as how DC and Absolute architect Scott Snyder has purposely kept interaction between the various Absolute DC titles to a minimum, the idea of an Absolute DC event by people experienced in events but also very self-aware and fan-aware of what sets the Absolute take on DC's heroes vs. the traditional take makes the project particularly intriguing.
"[The Absolute Universe event] is going to kind of build the universe in the same way that [2025 one-shot] Absolute Evil did, so, as you can see, you get an incredible book like Absolute Green Arrow out of just the one shot — you're gonna be very excited to see what we can do with the canvas of a full event mini series," concluded Conroy. "This is going to tie the stories together in a way that I think people are going to get really, really, really pumped about. That is all I can say about it for now, but it is coming in a big way."

About ComicsPRO Industry Conference
Every year, the giants of the North American comic industry congregate behind closed doors for a closed-door conference to talk about the changing landscape of comics, what they've learned, and what they are all planning to do in the future. It's not a comic convention for fans, though - it's in a B2B event called the ComicsPRO Annual Meeting, and this year Popverse is going there to bring it all to you. At the 2026 Comics PRO Annual Meeting, Popverse will be covering the announcements, the conversations, and the insight from the likes of Marvel Comics, DC Comics, VIZ Media, Yen Press, Image Comics, Skybound Entertainment, and more.
