A comic book store at an airport? Yes please, now I have one more reason to fly to PDX
Forget Hudson News, PDX is getting a comics pop-up shop with Books with Pictures.

Part of my job here at Popverse involves travel. I'm in the midst of my first of at least seven work trips this year that involves me getting on a plane to get there. I've become all too familiar with airports, and their eeriely modern semblance to a class '90s mall. But one thing I never realized it was missing was a comics store. I'm not talking about a little display in a Hudsons, but a comic store.
Well, now there's a comic book store coming to a major airport.
Those flying in and out of the Portland International Airport (PDX) will soon be able grab a comic on their way to a plane, or as they get off one. The PNW area comic store chain Books with Pictures has signed a deal to open its third location in PDX, scheduled to open later this spring.
Details on what to expect are sparse, but Books with Pictures founder Katie Pryde was practically jubilant here at ComicsPRO Industry Conference telling us about. Pryde will be curating comics displays for the very different audiences with different needs and wants than someone who comes into one of the two established Books with Pictures locations. The deal is part of PDX's newly remodeled main terminal, and a drive to have 100% of the new food and retail shops to be brands local to Oregon.
This new expansion comes following a successful GoFundMe campaign which raised its $42,500 goal (and then some) to help the business ride through the massive upheaval in the comics distribution pipeline these past few years.
But soon, you'll be able to pick up a nice DC Compact Comics edition, a manga, or something else as a impulse before you take off (or after you land) at PDX. Who knows - you might run into Popverse editor Graeme McMillan while you're there.

About ComicsPRO Industry Conference
Every year, the giants of the North American comic industry congregate behind closed doors for a closed-door conference to talk about the changing landscape of comics, what they've learned, and what they are all planning to do in the future. It's not a comic convention for fans, though - it's in a B2B event called the ComicsPRO Annual Meeting, and this year Popverse is going there to bring it all to you. At the 2026 Comics PRO Annual Meeting, Popverse will be covering the announcements, the conversations, and the insight from the likes of Marvel Comics, DC Comics, VIZ Media, Yen Press, Image Comics, Skybound Entertainment, and more.
