The Apothecary Diaries release schedule (Updated June 2026): When every manga chapter will be released
We've got two Apothecary Diaries manga adaptations, plus a spinoff manga, so there is plenty for you to read.

When you ask what the Apothecary Diaries release schedule is, it largely depends on which one you’re talking about. The original novel was first published online in 2011, with a print release happening the following year. Since then, there have been light novels, a hit anime, and two different manga adaptations of The Apothecary Diaries. For fans of The Apothecary Diaries manga, our release schedule will hopefully help clear up some confusion.
How often are new Apothecary Diary chapters released?
New Apothecary Diary chapters are released every month. As we mentioned above, there are currently two ongoing mainline Apothecary Diaries manga being published. The first is simply called The Apothecary Diaries and is published in Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan magazine. The second is called The Apothecary Diaries: Maomao’s Notes from the Inner Palace and is being serialized in Shogakukan’s Monthly Sunday Gene-X. Both series began in 2017 and are currently ongoing.
When is the next chapter of Apothecary Diaries coming out?

Meanwhile, The Apothecary Diaries: Maomao’s Notes from the Inner Palace Chapter 101 was released on May 19. 2026. Where can I read The Apothecary Diaries manga?
You can read The Apothecary Diaries manga on the MangaUp app, but there is currently no legal way to read The Apothecary Diaries: Maomao’s Notes from the Inner Palace online in English. Your best bet for that title is to pick up the physical volumes that are being released in English in 2026. Volume 1 will be released on October 20, 2026 and Volume 2 will be released on December 15, 2026. Finally, Volume 3 is set to be published in English on February 23, 2027.
What is the difference between The Apothecary Diaries manga?
Both the current Apothecary Diaries manga adapt material from the original novels, so the plots are generally the same. The difference is in the creative team behind them. The Apothecary Diaries is written by original author Hyuganatsu and Itsuki Nanao and illustrated by Nekokurage. However, The Apothecary Diaries: Maomao’s Notes from the Inner Palace is written and illustrated by Minoji Kurata. There is a different art style in each, and they make different choices as far as how to depict scenes, but both are largely the same.
What is The Apothecary Diaries spinoff manga about?
We know we mentioned that there are two Apothecary Diaries manga, but there is actually a third. The Apothecary Diaries: Xiaolan’s Story began publication in March 2025. It is the same basic plot of the main story but told from the character Xiaolan’s point of view. It makes for interesting reading for fans who are already familiar with the story and want to find out more about this important supporting character. These chapters are released much more sporadically but they can be found on the Manga Up! app.
Will there be more Apothecary Diaries anime?
Yes, The Apothecary Diaries anime is continuing. Season 3 is set to debut in October 2026, with the second half of the season coming out in April 2027. Further, there is a film set to come out in December 2026, so it is a busy year for The Apothecary Diaries fans.
What is The Apothecary Diaries movie about?

The fun thing is that we have very few details about The Apothecary Diaries movie due out in December 2026. We know that it is an original story not from the novels or the manga, though original author Hyuganatsu provided the story concept. Norihiro Naganuma, who was the chief director of The Apothecary Diaries Season 2, is back to direct the movie. We don’t even know its official title or its final release date.
How many more Apothecary Diaries light novels are there to adapt?
If you’re worried about The Apothecary Diaries anime running out of story to adapt, let us quiet those fears. So far, 16 volumes of the light novels have been released. However, the events of both the manga and anime only adapt the first four (with the manga slowly creeping ahead between seasons). That means that there is still multiple seasons worth of material to adapt.
