Midnight Spider-Man is a horror-driven reinvention of Peter Parker’s origin. In this universe, the ruthless Oscorp Corporation transforms Peter into a hideous human-spider hybrid while pursuing the secret of eternal life.

When Oscorp uses what it learned from Peter to create more human-animal hybrids, he must embrace the monstrous body forced upon him and turn it against the corporation responsible. The familiar lesson about power and responsibility remains, but this Peter learns it while struggling to control animal instincts and hold on to what remains of his humanity.

Is Peter Parker the Midnight Spider-Man?

Yes, Peter Parker is the protagonist of Midnight Spider-Man. This is not another character taking over the identity but a complete reimagining of Peter and the events that turn him into Spider-Man.

The difference is that his transformation is far more extreme. Rather than looking human while possessing spider-like abilities, Midnight Peter becomes a visibly monstrous hybrid. Johnson has compared the story’s approach to the work of David Cronenberg, H.R. Giger, Junji Ito, and John Carpenter, with Peter’s changing body placed at the center of the horror.

Is Midnight Spider-Man part of the main Marvel Universe?

No. Midnight Spider-Man takes place in Marvel’s new Midnight Universe, an alternate continuity built around horror-inspired versions of its biggest superheroes.
