One comics anthology is making room for more joyful, complicated Jewish stories
The creators behind CHUTZPAH! want Jewish comics to be more than stories about tragedy.

The beauty of comics is that they are diverse; anyone can pick up a pencil and write a story about anything they want. In an ideal world, comics contain not just a diversity of characters on the page but a diversity of creators crafting stories that reflect the diversity of the readers buying the books. To help with that goal, a Kickstarter for the second issue of CHUTZPAH! A Jewish Celebration in Comics is currently running.
The previous issue of CHUTZPAH! A Jewish Celebration in Comics was released in late 2025 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. This second issue follows on from that success and has a similar target and mission statement, which is to be a “celebration of Jewish joy, liberation, defiance, and diversity” through the comic book format. If successfully funded, it will include six new stories by Jewish creators, including a follow-up to Paul Axel’s Little Miracles story from Issue 1.
“The Jewish world is a complex, dynamic, and incredibly rich goldmine of narrative possibilities,” explained Chutzpah! Editor-in-Chief Arnon Shorr in a press release. “The Chutzpah! anthology allows us to dig up more of those great stories and share them with the world!”
Daniel Kalban, the founder of the Chutzpah! anthology, said, “Chutzpah! is a team effort, and with the success of the first issue, we are excited to bring the second issue of this new anthology series to comic book fans everywhere.”
The Chutzpah! issue two Kickstarter is currently ongoing and, at the time of writing, is sitting at $5472 raised against an $8,000 goal, with just under two weeks left until its August 11 deadline. We’d love to see this one get across the finish line. Comics are always at their best when they represent the full breadth of human experience, which includes adding a little chutzpah into the mix.
