WEBTOON has been cooking up a new digital comics platform to host classic and new, original comics from Marvel Comics and all of Disney's portfolio, including Star Wars, 20th Century Studios, Pixar, and more. Announced this time last year, the first three new titles were unveiled at Comic-Con International: San Diego, but one thing that hasn't been said is the name of this platform.

D Comics Project.

No, I didn't mistype that. Yes, that sounds similar to DC Comics. 

'D Comics Project' is what WEBTOON's Disney/Marvel Comics app is being called in job postings for a new department at the El Segundo-based company. It would fit in the Walt Disney Company's nomenclature for tech products, such as its D-Tech electronics accessories brand and its staff merchandise store, Company D. The 'D Comics' logo above is our creation, by the way; nothing has been released like that, except for the name 'D Comics Project' by WEBTOON.

Popverse reached out to WEBTOON and the Walt Disney Company for comment.

WEBTOON is currently hiring a Project Manager and a Senior Marketing Manager for the D Comics Project, both of whom would report to a new Head of Marketing for the department that we've been told has been interviewing this summer.

"WEBTOON is becoming the home for Marvel and Disney comics — a new subscription app where fans read, collect, and stay connected to the stories and characters they love. We're building the definitive destination for Marvel/Disney IP..." reads both job descriptions. "It’s an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys building brands, thrives in highly collaborative environments, and is passionate about entertainment, fandom, and culture."

From the job posting, the D Comics Project app will be aiming to attract both new readers and lapsed readers, with a focus on "unlock new audiences and distribution opportunities."

The D Comics Project app was announced in 2025 to include over 100 comic titles (and 35,000 individual issues) at launch, some reformatted for WEBTOON's vertical scroll format and some in the traditional comic book reading experience. Originally announced to be in a dedicated new section of the main WEBTOON app, a month later it was expanded to be described in official communications as "an all-new digital comics platform."

(That dedicated section of the WEBTOON app for Marvel & Disney comics is already online.)

“With a new platform that will combine our product and technical expertise with Disney’s full comic catalog, we’re giving new and longtime fans all over the world a new way to discover these legendary characters and stories,” said WEBTOON founder/CEO Junkoo Kim back in that announcement.

The newly-promoted Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro said at the time that "by uniting our unparalleled collection of comics across Marvel, Star Wars, Disney, Pixar and 20th Century Studios into a single digital platform, we’re giving fans unprecedented access to the adventures they love – all in one place.

In that release, the D Comics app would be available for a flat-rate subscription fee, but would be usable for people already on the pre-existing Marvel Unlimited service. Disney+ subscribers would also be able to access a "curated" section of the D Comics app without paying a new subscription.

The first wave of original Marvel series on this app will be:

• Tony's Girl by writer CRC Payne and artist StarBite

• That Time Deadpool Fell Into WEBTOON... and Found The Longest Title of All Time!!! by writer Ucheomaaa and artist Annie Huang

• X-Men Korea by writer/artists at WEBTOON's in-house Studio LICO

It's possible that WEBTOON and Disney will alter the 'D Comics Project' name before it's officially launched, but for now, internally and in a few job postings, it's D Comics Project.

More details on Disney x WEBTOON's D Comics Project are expected to be announced later this year.
