DC Next Level ropes in Sweet Tooth creator Jeff Lemire to reignite Firestorm

With a script by Absolute Flash writer Jeff Lemire and art by Daredevil's Rafael De Latorre, The Fury of Firestorm comes to comic shops April 2026

There's no such thing as a non-popular DC Comics character, but you have to admit, the DC Next Level line of comics is certainly focusing on some who've deserved a spotlight for a while now. We already know about Lobo, Deathstroke, and Batwoman getting solo titles, but today, DC Comics has revealed they're pulling out all the stops for another B-tier (but no less awesome) hero: Firestorm. That said, though the character might have been somewhat under-the-radar of late, the talent DC is bringing on has been anything but.

The Fury of Firestorm brings together Sweet Tooth creator (and current Absolute Flash scribe) Jeff Lemire and hit Daredevil and The Penguin artist Rafael De Latorre for a story that's all about the consequences of great power - particularly the kind from the Nuclear Man.

"The community of Bedford, Colorado, is a sleepy small town," reads DC's official synopsis of the comic, "The people say hello to their neighbors, attend town hall meetings, and root for the local high school football team on Friday nights. But this idyllic small town is thrown upside down when the Nuclear Man arrives and starts…experimenting. Firestorm has turned buildings to sand and people to glass with no remorse and no warning. But what exactly provoked Ronnie Raymond to commit this heinous act, and can anyone contain the fury that is Firestorm?"

The Fury of Firestorm #1 debuts wherever comics are sold April 1. As you wait, check out the first four pages of the book as well as a host of variant covers by Chris Burnham, Rafael De Latorre, Jeff Lemire, Riley Rossmo, and Jorge Corona, respectively.
