Comic book readers aren’t the only ones tired of seeing the DC Universe reboot. It turns out the DC heroes are tired of it as well.
The first issue of DC K.O. contains a moment when the Time Trapper offers the heroes a way to beat Darkseid – reboot their timeline. He tells them they’ve done it once before, and we see an image of DC’s 'New 52.' The heroes reject the offer, instead deciding to fight to save their universe.
According to DC K.O. writer Scott Snyder, this was a tongue-in-cheek joke about DC’s constant reboots.
“If you’ve read [DC K.O.], the threat is that this kind of time council comes to the characters and says, ‘The only way to save you is to reboot you,’” Scott Snyder tells Popverse’s Chris Arrant. “And [the heroes are] like, ‘We don’t do that. We can’t go back to the 'New 52.' We won’t do that.’ So, there’s a tongue-in-cheek quality to it, but we’re really sincere. This space for collective storytelling that’s 80 years old is one of the greatest achievements in Western narrative, in my opinion. And there’s amazing new stories to be told there.”
