Dr. Stone artist Boichi believes in AI's future, but not when it steals his money or authorship as he calls out X/Twitter

The recent implementation of AI image-editing software on X/Twitter has made the previously prolific Dr. Stone artist scale back their use of the social media site.

Posting your art online takes a lot of guts. Not only are members of the public notoriously harsh at times, but you now have to contend with the fact that genAI is training its models on any image that shows up on the Internet. For Dr. Stone artist Boichi, X/Twitter’s latest move to allow users to manipulate images with AI is a step too far, and he has resolved not to post any more art on the social media site.

On December 25, 2025, Dr. Stone artist Mu-jik Park, better known by his pen name Boichi, said that he will no longer be posting images or illustrations on X/Twitter. “For now, I will stop posting my comics and illustrations on X. Instead, I will begin sharing my comics and illustrations on Instagram. Please understand – this does not mean I am leaving X. I will remain here, continue sharing news, and continue talking with you,” Boichi posted on X/Twitter.

“I want to be clear: I do not fear AI. In fact, I believe in its future and the possibilities it may bring,” he said in the same post when explaining his reasons for the shift in posting behavior. “However, I cannot accept my works being used, learned from, or exploited without my consent or proper compensation.” Boichi has since opened up a Bluesky account as an alternative way to connect with fans and share news about his work. In his first post, he shared an illustration, so it is clear that the illustration ban only extends to X and its AI image-editing feature that was recently rolled out.
